Hurricane Michael made landfall near Mexico Beach on the Florida Panhandle as a Category 4 storm early Wednesday afternoon on Oct. 10, 2018. The storm’s heavy rain, high winds, and extreme storm surges caused massive destruction. Hurricane Michael was the first Category 4 storm in recorded history
to make landfall in the northeast Gulf Coast. Join Sequoyah Elementary 3rd graders in gathering items to deliver to Hank’s Furniture Store to aid in the
disaster relief. Together, we can all make a difference. We will collect October 29th- November 2nd at Sequoyah.

Wednesday is our Flu Clinic. Students who turned in consent forms will be given their flu shots in the morning. If you would like for your child to receive their flu shot at school, all consent forms need to be turned in by Wednesday morning.. Great Seq. Camp Out: Tues Oct 2nd @ 5:30. Join us for s'mores, fire safety, and a story teller! Students can wear camping gear that day. After GSCO, we will host Gettin' Down for Grice at 7:00 on upper playground. This fundraiser is in honor of our own Mrs. Grice.

Parents of 3rd graders please take note: Next week students in grades 3-4 will be taking the ACT Aspire tests Monday-Friday. 3rd graders will be coming in from their morning recess early. If your child will be eating breakfast at school, they must arrive by 7:40. Students will come into the building around 7:45 and breakfast will be served then.

Russellville School District is now accepting referrals for student placement in the Gifted and Talented (G/T) Program for the 2018-2019 school year. The G/T program is designed to serve high potential/high performing students who demonstrate above average intellectual ability, high task commitment, and above average creativity. If you have a 2nd-11th-grade student you feel should be considered for placement in this program, you may pick up a referral form from any Russellville elementary school office or the GT/AP Office at Russellville High School. The completed form must be returned to your child's school by Friday, April 13, 2018. Russellville School District will host a Student Art Exhibition featuring artwork from 25 students in grades kindergarten-5th from each RSD elementary school. The Exhibition will take place Sunday, April 8, 2018, from 2-4 p.m. at The Center for the Arts. The Student Art Exhibition will showcase the strongest fine art pieces from each school and students will be presented with award certificates after the show. Parents and community members can view the Exhibition until April 12, 2018, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Center for the Arts.

RSD Announces Kindergarten Registration for 2018-19 School Year
RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (April 2, 2018) -- Russellville School District will hold kindergarten registration on April 16-17, 2018, from 6-7 p.m. Registration for Crawford, Dwight, and Sequoyah elementary schools will be on April 16, and registration for Center Valley, London, and Oakland Heights elementary schools will be on April 17.
State law requires children be five years of age on or before August 1, 2018, to enroll in kindergarten for the 2018-2019 school year. Children should be registered in the attendance zone in which they live and should bring the following information to registration:
an official copy of child’s birth certificate;
guardianship papers, if you have been court-appointed as a legal guardian;
immunization record;
record of current physical examination by physician (children are required to have a physical exam before entering school);
Social Security card; and
ARKids First/Medicaid card (if applicable).

In an effort to make strategic, data-driven decisions, Russellville School District has partnered with Hanover Research to conduct research projects for our district for one year. The 2018 School Climate Survey is the first survey Hanover will be conducting for our district.
The district is requesting participation from parents and community members in this 10-minute anonymous survey. The results of the survey will be used to guide our improvement planning process, and we need your participation in our improvement endeavors.

All RSD schools will dismiss 90 minutes early Monday, February 19th. Late bus riders, car riders, and walkers will be dismissed at 1:40. Early bus riders, Boys & Girls Club, and daycare van riders will be dismissed shortly before 1:40.

Parents this Thursday is the Wild West Book Fair kickoff. Students may dress in western attire. Friday from 5:30-7:30 is the annual Sock Hop. Dr. Gotcher will host a Twitter Town Hall on Tuesday, October 3, 2017, from 6:30-8 p.m. on the social media platform Twitter. During the town hall, participants will have the opportunity to give feedback on three questions: what does RSD need to start doing, what does RSD need to stop doing, and what does RSD need to continue doing. The three questions will be released at different times throughout the evening on Dr. Gotcher’s Twitter account @mlgotcher. Participants are asked to use the hashtag #RSDListens when responding to the questions.

Great Seq Campout is Thurs at 5:45! We also invite you to the Cool Cafe foodtasting/book swap event that starts at 5:00 in the cafeteria. Students may dress in their favorite camping gear tomorrow.

Don't forget that tomorrow night is the Great Sequoyah Campout! The fun starts at 5:45 and ends at 7:45.

During the afternoon of Monday October 16th, the Russellville School District, in partnership with the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH), is providing the flu vaccine to students and staff. Flu packets will be sent home with students over the next several weeks. Please read, complete, and sign the ADH consent form (front and back) and the RSD FERPA form. Both forms must be returned to the school nurse in order for your child to receive the flu vaccine at the school flu clinic. Please contact your child’s school nurse if you have any questions.

The Child Nutrition Department would like to remind parents that a new application must be filled out each year to qualify for free and reduced meals. If you have not filled one out for the 2017-18 school year please fill one out as soon as possible.
